Lily

Lily Nicole King was born on March 21, 2006. At about 9-12 months of age, Lily began saying Mama and BaBa (DaDa), and was developing at what would be considered an "average" level. After about 13 months of age, Lily had a large round of immunizations. Two days later, Lily lost all speech and eye contact. It never came back. We hoped it was just a phase, and our Doctor had told us for months that something was wrong, but we refused to believe it. Until March of this year, Lily turned 2, and I realized she would not even think of drinking out of a cup or eating her birthday cake with a spoon or a fork. Lily was still on a bottle, no words, and little eye contact. We finally listened to our Doctor and had her evaluated. Lily was diagnosed with Autism on April, 1 2008. Not an easy thing to accept. Denial was pretty much a way of life in our home for a few months.

Today we accept Lily for who she is, we could not possibly love her a drop more. She is our angel. Lily has therapy 3 times a week in our home, and she is learning sign language (slowly but surely). She can already do the sign for "more". Which is a miracle! Autism has affected Lily in ways that are hard for "average" people to understand. Certain sounds and lights can "hurt" Lily. She can have tantrums/episodes for up to 6 hours at a time on bad days. Lily gets very frustrated when she can't express what it is she needs/wants. On a lighter note, Lily's smile will melt your heart. Lily loves to dance, and her Daddy is her favorite "toy" in the entire world. She is a true angel and we feel blessed to have her in our lives.
